I learned to type at the age of 16 and achieved RSA I and II qualifications the following year. Later in my career, I worked inside courtrooms daily for 11 years, gaining experience in both Magistrates’ and Crown Courts, in a busy city and in a quiet rural location. While some people may find courtrooms dull, I found them fascinating; every day brought something new.

Transcribing court proceedings allows me to combine my fast, accurate typing, my deep familiarity with legal terminology and my skills as a meticulous proofreader. I carry out thorough research when I come across unfamiliar place names or technical terms, and I work to specifications within clients’ style guides and legal formatting expectations. The work also requires a commitment to confidentiality and data protection.

Court transcripts often include unique or old-fashioned language, and it gives me real satisfaction to decipher difficult or unclear phrases. I love the challenge and the precision this work demands.
